What does it take to get decent housing these days? Apparently, it is harder than you think. Springwoods at Lake Ridge, Woodbridge, VA took pictures of one of their restored apartments to attract renters, but not all of their apartments were appealing. Unfortunately, the “shady” organization did not place an asterisk stating the updated appliances shown online was available only in select apartments. Individuals moving from other states fell victim to their unethical advertisements. Everything from old appliances breaking down, fragmented rusted stairs on just about every level, bug infested, and old outlets that could not keep your electronics running. If the outlets did keep your electronics running the entire apartment loses power. With this said, outdated windows caused high electric bills during the summer and winter months. What made things worse, how about the air conditioning breaking down taking maintenance more than a day to fix it at the same time enduring 90 degree weather. Finally, a former tenant placed her rent in escrow demanding repairs enough was enough. The tenant took pictures of the busted rusted stairs indicating to Prince William County Courts if the stairs remained in terrible shape, her two small boys ages 4, 5 including herself were in danger of falling and sustaining life threatening injuries. Undoubtedly, a Prince William County Judge stated the pictures the tenant provided did not prove those stairs came from the apartment. The judge denied her request allowing her to continue to pay her rent in escrow, released her hard earned rent payments to Springwoods at Lake Ridge, and then dreadfully placing a judgment on her credit report. The tenant hired an attorney for the removal of the judgment costing over $600.00. On top of the appalling ordeal, Springwoods of Lake Ridge added hundreds of dollars of late fees even though the rent was legally in escrow. Think twice before selecting Springwoods at Lake Ridge in Woodbridge, VA, do not count on the justice system, they could care less about their citizens, and make sure you carefully investigate apartments before signing a lease.
